AN ACT OF LOVE

****since it is almost valentine's day...here's a good story to make you mushy mushy...^_^****

It was all about a couple living a simple life and being together is the most important thing they care about. The fact that the husband was the only one earning made them difficult to buy additional luxuries including gifts during special occasions. I would say that it must be sometime during the sixties wherein the husband provides and the wife plainly stays at home to attend on domestic matters.
The husband adores his wife's long hair. He loves touching it everytime he shows his affection towards her. It was his dream to buy a beautiful hair comb for his wife but the lack of money forbids him to do so. A week soon and it would be their wedding anniversary. Beyond the husband knowledge his wife was in deep thoughts as to what gift she would buy for her loving husband. After a days work at home the wife decides to make a short walk and saw a watch-repair stand along the streets. Suddenly, a brilliant idea struck her mind and gladly made her way back home. On the day of their anniversary the wife hurriedly went to a beauty parlor whose window's post a sign board "BUYING HAIR". During those times some parlors buy natural hair for wig making. After getting paid, the wife strolled back to the watch-repair stand and bought the leather bracelet to match her husband's Hamilton wrist watch since it's former bracelet was long worn-out. Finally the wife returned home brimming with happiness. At last, her husband would be wearing his wrist watch once again.
It was nearing night and soon her husband would be home any time by now. Her heart felt so much excitement longing to see his reaction about the leather bracelet. Just as she finished fixing her short hair, she heard the door opened and to her surprise her husband looked terribly disappointed upon seeing her new hair cut. "Happy anniversary my dear" said her husband. And she noticed the sadness in his face while he handed his gift to her. Not knowing what to say she opened her gift and saw a beautiful imported hair comb. Her tears begun to swell from her eyes and asked "this is expensive, where did you get the money to buy this?". The husband replied, "Remember the wrist watch i kept? I sold it to buy you a gift.". With a melting heart, the wife embraced her husband for so long they forgot about their gifts but only their love for one another. . .

OUR LIFE

Every morning wake up,
thinking of not going to work!

But we have no choice, but to do it,
we brush our teeth.

and go to shit!

Quickly eat breakfast.

Prepare to go to work.

At work, we work for the
whole day, and seeing
someone we don’t like!

Our closest friend is the PC,
And with the terrible PC
(Programming *%#@),
we work until feel like dying!

After working, we still have
to finish tones of work!

Everyday, we always check
at the calendar and looking
forward to Saturday and
public holidays.

….That’s our life!

The Brick

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?" The young boy was apologetic. "Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..."

With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up." Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me." Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. "Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy! push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar.

The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: "Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not. Thought for the Day: If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring. He sends you a sunrise every morning .Face it, friend - He is crazy about you! Send this to every "beautiful person" you wish to bless. God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. Read this line very slowly and let it sink in... If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

REULEAUX TRIANGLE: ROLLING TRIANGLES

Man is a rational being. Through man’s existence on earth he has been longing and striving for knowledge. He keeps on searching for the things that are good for the body, things that are good for the soul and things that are good for the mind. Man’s hope lies in his rational nature and his determination and courage to reach the success, therefore his quest for the “impossible dream” must go on, and he must continue fighting and searching for the things that are good.

The desire of man is simply to satisfy his needs. Thus, the ability of man to think mathematically existed. According to some mathematicians, everything on earth that man perceives can be interpreted using mathematical expressions. Meaning, these things can be explained through numbers and figures. Mathematicians believe that mathematics was related to numbers and figures. Through this, another discipline arose and it is called “Geometry”. Geometry was defined as the branch of mathematics that treat space and its relation, especially as shown in the properties and measurement of points, lines, angles, surfaces and solids.

Studies concerning the relationship of figures trigger my curiosity which was inspired by different theories. Apparently, Barbier’s theorem indicates that some figures aside from circle possess a constant width. This statement caught my concern pertaining to this figure called “reuleaux polygons”. Barbier theorem states that all shapes of constant width D have the same perimeter pi D. The width of a convex figure in a certain direction is the distance between two supporting lines perpendicular to that direction. A straight line is called supporting a convex figure if they have at least one common point and the figure lies in one side from the line. In any direction there are two supporting lines. Shapes of constant width are convex figures that have the same width in any direction. The circle has this property. Barbier theorem also states that all curves of constant width of width w have the same perimeter.

For reuleaux triangle, we need to construct an equilateral triangle. On each vertex, center a compass, and draw an arc the short distance between the other two vertices. The perimeter will be three nonconcentric arcs. This is a reuleaux triangle. It is not a circle, but, like a circle, it has constant width, no matter how it is oriented. It is not difficult to see this property, but you should prove it.

Kunkel, P. (1997) made some sketches of the reuleaux and discovered some other interesting properties. It can roll uphill, in a manner of speaking. Notice that as it rolls, its height is constant, but the height of its centroid changes. If it had mass, the centroid would be the center of mass. Imagine that it is standing on one vertex, so that the centroid is at its highest, and imagine that the surface is very slightly inclined. If it moves forward one sixth turn, the centroid will fall. So although the surface rises, the reuleaux is actually falling.

With this, it triggers my imagination..is it possible to use this type of polygons in car wheels??
